Mood Board

Yesterday, I finally went through my collection of images and tears from magazines and reorganized my mood board. It’s been the same for a while now and I felt like I needed a change. I just started pinning images up on my corkboard, seeing what worked together and what didn’t. I have a feeling my board is going to evolve over the next couple weeks, but here is the start:

I was drawn to graphic blacks and whites, emerald green, and natural forms.

Do you create visual moodboards? Where do you find your inspiration?

My Week via Instagram

I finally organized my craft books in the basement and took some time to catch up on my magazine reading.

I rocked my Toms leopard fur botas all week and they kept my feet so warm!

We had a gallery opening on Friday night at work, so I got to dress up all fancy in my metallic gold skirt with a bow.

I finally caved and bought myself a bottle of Jimmy Choo perfume. I think it was a good investment because I’ve been receiving many compliments!

And I spent the weekend in the city celebrating my best friends 25th birthday. We splurged and decided to get a hotel, which turned into the greatest decision ever because the front desk greeted us with free, warm oatmeal chocolate chip cookies!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

Hand Printed Christmas Cards, Pt. 3

It was a very dreary, wintery day yesterday…the perfect day to leisurely wake up, get right into comfy, warm clothes, and work on some art projects while listening to Christmas music. My goal for the day was to print some more Christmas cards. I wanted to use the “Let it Snow” I drew last week and then make some snowflakes to go around the writing. I made a quick mock up of my idea in Photoshop. As you can see, I have the writing flipped because when I make the stamp, the writing needs to be reversed so that it prints the correct way.

I took this print and placed it over my linoleum stamp, with transfer paper in between, and transferred the writing onto the stamp.

Once it was transferred, I started carving.

Next, I made my snowflake stamps.

And finally it was time to print! I started with the “Let it Snow” stamp in red.

Then, I added the snowflakes in white.

I could have stopped here, but I wanted to use the glitter glue I bought last week at Michaels, so I added that on top of the snowflakes to give them some sparkle (the glitter is kind of hard to see in the photo).

I printed 8 of these cards and I love how they turned out. I really like the way the white and red look on the brown card and I’m really glad I added glitter to the snowflakes.

I wanted to try one more design, so I went back to the Christmas light stamps I used for the gift tags. I loved the way the tags looked, so I decided to translate the same idea to a card. I used all the same colors and lined the lights along the bottom of the card.

Then, I added a black line to connect the lights.

They still didn’t seem quite complete, so I took the gold glitter glue and added small lines at the top of the lights.

This might be one of my favorite cards so far! I love the different colors and the touch of gold glitter.

It’s probably time I start mailing some of these cards out…Christmas is only two weeks away!

Hand Printed Christmas Gift Tags

Last week, my friend and I had a craft day and decided to stamp our own Christmas gift tags. As usual, we got distracted by food (Thanksgiving leftovers, yum!) and did not get nearly as much done as we thought we would. That being said, we still enjoyed ourselves and I  made one tag that I’m really happy with!

I had a bunch of card stock left over from my scrapbooking days so we cut some pieces down to 3” x 5” rectangles. We both really love the big, colorful Christmas lights, so we made three rubber stamps, each with a different size light.

Once the stamps were made, we inked them up and started printing! Unfortunately, quite a few of my photos came out blurry, but I did get a couple good shots of my favorite tag:

I stamped the lights in 4 different colors because I wanted them to resemble the really colorful, old Christmas lights. Once they were dry, I drew in the black strand to connect then. All that’s left to do is punch a hole in one end, add some ribbon, and write a note on the back! I think I may try this design on a card as well because I love how colorful it is!

I got distracted with my camera and all the paints on the table and then went a bit crazy editing them in Photoshop, so here are some extra shots of my printing supplies:

Last night, I went to Michael’s to buy some tote bags, t-shirts, etc. for a screen-printing workshop I have on Sunday, but of course, left with more goodies than I originally intended! I got two packs of pre-made gift tags, two packs of cards, some glitter glue, gold and silver pens, and adhesive ribbon. I have some ideas brewing so I will be sure to share them all with you!
