Happy Holidays!

Hello friends! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and enjoyed good company and good food! We had a quiet holiday at home – relaxing by the fire, sipping eggnog, watching A Christmas Story for 24 hours and indulging in Christmas cookies. And we finally had a white Christmas! I was so excited to see snow falling on Christmas Eve. Those white flakes really do make the holiday feel more magical!

Hand Printed Wrapping Paper, Pt. 2

Saturday, I printed another roll of wrapping paper (check out my first two designs here) with the tree stamps I used on my first batch of Christmas cards. I used red, green and gold ink and created a geometric pattern. I really love the way this one turned out!

Tomorrow is the big day! Does everyone have their gifts wrapped and under the tree? Mine are finally all done so today, I am going to lounge around, watch my favorite Christmas movies (Elf, Love Actually, Christmas Vacation…), maybe do some more baking, and wait impatiently until A Christmas Story comes on TBS at 8pm. Yes, I am one of those people who watch it 24 hours straight. It is my absolute favorite Christmas movie!

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas Eve and enjoys time spent with family and friends!

Hand Printed Wrapping Paper

Today was my first day of Christmas vacation (yay!) and I have been super busy finishing up my shopping and getting some presents wrapped. I decided this morning (last minute, of course) that I wanted to hand print my own wrapping paper this year. So I took a quick run to Walmart, bought 4 rolls of brown Kraft paper, and got straight to work!

At first, I was going to just roll out a length of the Kraft paper, but I didn’t know how long it would take the ink to dry, so I took my presents, measured out individual pieces and cut them down to the correct size. Once I had each piece of paper ready, I started printing! I used stamps that I previously made so that saved me quite a bit of time.

When I finished printing, I made little gift tags and colored my own twine, and then wrapped up the presents!

I’m so happy with the way they turned out and I love the homemade feel to them! I hope the person who receives these will be just as pleased!

I hope this post has given you some creative ideas for how to wrap your gifts this year!

P.S. I can’t believe Christmas is 4 days away!

Hand Printed Christmas Cards, Pt. 3

It was a very dreary, wintery day yesterday…the perfect day to leisurely wake up, get right into comfy, warm clothes, and work on some art projects while listening to Christmas music. My goal for the day was to print some more Christmas cards. I wanted to use the “Let it Snow” I drew last week and then make some snowflakes to go around the writing. I made a quick mock up of my idea in Photoshop. As you can see, I have the writing flipped because when I make the stamp, the writing needs to be reversed so that it prints the correct way.

I took this print and placed it over my linoleum stamp, with transfer paper in between, and transferred the writing onto the stamp.

Once it was transferred, I started carving.

Next, I made my snowflake stamps.

And finally it was time to print! I started with the “Let it Snow” stamp in red.

Then, I added the snowflakes in white.

I could have stopped here, but I wanted to use the glitter glue I bought last week at Michaels, so I added that on top of the snowflakes to give them some sparkle (the glitter is kind of hard to see in the photo).

LetitSnowCard4

I printed 8 of these cards and I love how they turned out. I really like the way the white and red look on the brown card and I’m really glad I added glitter to the snowflakes.

I wanted to try one more design, so I went back to the Christmas light stamps I used for the gift tags. I loved the way the tags looked, so I decided to translate the same idea to a card. I used all the same colors and lined the lights along the bottom of the card.

Then, I added a black line to connect the lights.

They still didn’t seem quite complete, so I took the gold glitter glue and added small lines at the top of the lights.

This might be one of my favorite cards so far! I love the different colors and the touch of gold glitter.

It’s probably time I start mailing some of these cards out…Christmas is only two weeks away!
