My Week via Instagram

Happy Monday – I hope everyone is having a fantastic 3-day weekend! I thought I would share with you another weekly recap via Instagram…

Instagram_Week2

I tried several new beers this week, including Red Hook’s Winterhook, Widmer Brothers’ Brr Seasonal Ale and River Horse’s Oatmeal Milk Stout. My favorite was definitely the Oatmeal Milk Stout. It was dark, but not overly heavy, and had delicious hints of chocolate and coffee.

Saturday night, my friends and I saw the Gin Blossoms at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, NJ. They played a great show! It was so fun to dance and sing along to their classics we grew up listening to, like “Hey Jealousy,” “Found Out About You” and “Follow You Down.”

And yesterday, my friend and I had a lazy and relaxed Sunday that involved a New Girl marathon, eating pizza and baking! She found a really simple recipe for Salted Nutella Peanut Butter Thumbprint cookies. There were only 5 ingredients plus Nutella and all you do is combine them in a bowl, then bake for 10 minutes. They were absolutely delicious! I love the combination of salty and sweet, especially when it involves Nutella!

I hope everyone is well rested and ready for the start of a new week!

Weekly Pinspiration

Happy Friday, everyone! Today, I thought I’d give you a roundup of what has inspired me this past week on Pinterest (follow me here). As you can see, I have some reoccurring themes in my pins – lots of black and white, lots of neutral tones, things that glitter and and other funky details. Overall, I would say I was inspired by things that are classy, chic and downright fun! I especially love the Amy Poehler quote and the Audrey Hepburn (from “Funny Face”) iPhone case – I’d say they go hand in hand!

I’m so excited for this weekend! I’m taking my best friend to see the Gin Blossoms at the Stone Pony (yes, Bruce Springsteen) for her 25th birthday! We loved them when we were younger and they are our “down the shore” music in the summer, so I think it’s going to be a great way to kick off her 25th year (eeek! when did we get to be 25?!)

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Hand Printed Wrapping Paper

Today was my first day of Christmas vacation (yay!) and I have been super busy finishing up my shopping and getting some presents wrapped. I decided this morning (last minute, of course) that I wanted to hand print my own wrapping paper this year. So I took a quick run to Walmart, bought 4 rolls of brown Kraft paper, and got straight to work!

At first, I was going to just roll out a length of the Kraft paper, but I didn’t know how long it would take the ink to dry, so I took my presents, measured out individual pieces and cut them down to the correct size. Once I had each piece of paper ready, I started printing! I used stamps that I previously made so that saved me quite a bit of time.

When I finished printing, I made little gift tags and colored my own twine, and then wrapped up the presents!

I’m so happy with the way they turned out and I love the homemade feel to them! I hope the person who receives these will be just as pleased!

I hope this post has given you some creative ideas for how to wrap your gifts this year!

P.S. I can’t believe Christmas is 4 days away!

DIY Holiday Nails

With Christmas right around the corner, I have been painting and re-painting my nails almost every other day, trying out new holiday looks! I’m loving all the metallic and glittery colors for this time of year. They’re so festive! This weekend, I wore Sally Hansen’s Gilty Pleasure, which is a really pretty metallic gold color.

After I got dressed for work this morning, I decided to switch to red because I’m wearing a green blouse and I just felt very Christmasy! So I painted my nails Right Said Red (also by Sally Hansen) and glammed them up a bit with an accent nail using Essie’s Luxeffects Set in Stones top coat. I love the chunky glitter in this top coat and I think the silver and red are so pretty together!

Hand Printed Christmas Cards, Pt. 3

It was a very dreary, wintery day yesterday…the perfect day to leisurely wake up, get right into comfy, warm clothes, and work on some art projects while listening to Christmas music. My goal for the day was to print some more Christmas cards. I wanted to use the “Let it Snow” I drew last week and then make some snowflakes to go around the writing. I made a quick mock up of my idea in Photoshop. As you can see, I have the writing flipped because when I make the stamp, the writing needs to be reversed so that it prints the correct way.

LetitSnow

I took this print and placed it over my linoleum stamp, with transfer paper in between, and transferred the writing onto the stamp.

Once it was transferred, I started carving.

Next, I made my snowflake stamps.

And finally it was time to print! I started with the “Let it Snow” stamp in red.

Then, I added the snowflakes in white.

I could have stopped here, but I wanted to use the glitter glue I bought last week at Michaels, so I added that on top of the snowflakes to give them some sparkle (the glitter is kind of hard to see in the photo).

I printed 8 of these cards and I love how they turned out. I really like the way the white and red look on the brown card and I’m really glad I added glitter to the snowflakes.

I wanted to try one more design, so I went back to the Christmas light stamps I used for the gift tags. I loved the way the tags looked, so I decided to translate the same idea to a card. I used all the same colors and lined the lights along the bottom of the card.

Then, I added a black line to connect the lights.

They still didn’t seem quite complete, so I took the gold glitter glue and added small lines at the top of the lights.

This might be one of my favorite cards so far! I love the different colors and the touch of gold glitter.

It’s probably time I start mailing some of these cards out…Christmas is only two weeks away!
