Shout-out to “Those Blue Eyes” Blog!

Hey everyone! I was so excited when I saw that Joanna of Those Blue Eyes used my DIY Pillowcase tutorial to make her very own pillowcases! I absolutely love the fabric she chose! Aren’t they super cute?!

If you haven’t yet, you should definitely check out her blog. She has DIY, Thrifty Finds, Photography and Scrapbooking sections and throughout the entire blog she includes beautiful photographs of her daughter, for whom the blog is named. So, be sure to stop by Those Blue Eyes and say hi!

Thanks so much, Joanna, for reading my blog and making some awesome pillowcases!

Fighting the Winter Blues

Here we are, a month in to winter, and I’m already suffering from some major winter blues. Up until this past week, the winter has been pretty mild compared to winters past, so I probably shouldn’t be complaining. But these single digit temperatures just don’t seem to agree with me. I suffer from the horrible condition of being cold 90% of the time (yes, even when it’s 80 degrees in the summer) and so imagine how cold I am when the weather channel tells me its 7 degrees out. Imagine all of the layers I have to put on. I end up looking like Randy in A Christmas Story, waddling out of my house crying because “I can’t put my arms down!”

I wouldn’t call what I experience “seasonal depression” because my mood doesn’t necessarily change (although, if I’m being completely honest, it has been known to). More so than depression, I would say I experience an extreme bout of laziness when temperatures drop below 40 degrees. No matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to get myself out of bed in the morning, which is odd because usually I’m a morning person. But in the winter my room is always so warm because my radiator lets out an unusual amount of heat and my bed is so soft and cozy, it’s literally impossible to move (okay it’s not completely impossible, I would just rather lay there all day). In the winter, especially when it gets as cold as it has been this week, all I want to do is cuddle up with a soft blanket, make a cup of tea or hot cocoa, and bury my nose in a good book (speaking of a good book, does anyone have any reading suggestions?)

But I suppose that’s all fantasy because, in reality, even though it’s just barely above 0 degrees and I think that the world should stop, it doesn’t. Life goes on, whether I want it to or not, and so, I have to pull myself out of bed, leave the cozy, warm comfort of my 80 degree room, bundle up in twenty layers like Randy, and move on with my day. So, since I can’t live out my dreams of knit socks, sweatpants, hot mugs and books, what do I do to fight the winter blues? Dream of all things sun, sand and summer, of course!

If I keep dreaming of the sun and warm weather, then maybe, just maybe, I can make it through this winter alive. After all, spring is less than three months away!

P.S. I have to give a big BIRTHDAY SHOUT-OUT to my best friend!

She turns 25 today! Can’t wait to celebrate your with you this weekend! I love you, girl!

Things I’m Lovin’ in January

Lovin1 Lovin2

1. I am loving Leinenkugal’s Snowdrift Vanilla Porter and Southern Tier’s Choklat Stout. They’re dark and sweet, but the flavors aren’t overpowering. They’re perfect for the winter!

2. I am loving patterned tights this season and went a bit overboard the last time I was at Express (they were buy one get one 50% off!) Here are a few that I purchased:

Sheer Lace Full Tights (what I’m wearing in the photo)

Sheer Small Dot Full Tights

Diamond Texture Full Tights

3. I am loving The Lumineers self-titled album. It is filled with spirited, infectious beats that you just can’t help bobbing your head and tapping your feet to. I’m sure most of you have heard their popular single “Ho Hey!” and have experienced the immediate smile that crosses your face as you take in the romantically simple lyrics of “I belong to you, you belong to me, you’re my sweetheart.” Some of my other favorites are “Dead Sea,” “Stubborn Love,” and “Big Parade.”

I am also becoming slightly obsessed with British singer-songwriter Ben Howard and his album Every Kingdom. The acoustic guitar and his soothing voice make it a great album to sit back and chill out to. One of my favorites is “Old Pine,” which I think really demonstrates his song-writing ability. He sings, “Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags, I’ve come to know that memories were the best things you ever had. The summer shone beat down on bony backs, so far from home where the ocean stood, down dust and pine cone tracks.” When you listen to it, you are transported to the woods and really feel like you’re camping with your best friends in the heat of the summer. A couple other favorites from the album are “The Wolves” and “Black Flies.” I’m hoping to get tickets to his show in NY in February!

4. I am loving my new Michael Kors watch in tortoiseshell! The reddish brown tones along with the gold go with everything!

5. I am loving all things that sparkle, especially when bows are added in – like this super cute belt my aunt gave me for Christmas!

6. My parents got me New Girl Season 1 on DVD for Christmas and I can’t stop watching it. I watched it when it was on TV, but I love being able to watch episodes back-to-back non-stop. I am definitely going to have a “douche jar” in my apartment…just sayin’.

7. I am in the market for new perfume and I am loving Jimmy Choo. It’s got sweet hints of vanilla and patchouli and the scent lasts all day. And I love the description on Amazon because its all about being confident, fun and chic: “It expresses an aura of strength and beauty. Glamorous in attitude, confident, intelligent, and with a sense of fashion and fun, the fragrance is a modern fruity chypre with warm, rich, woody depths. It’s a fragrance inspired by modern women – strong, empowered, beautiful, seductive, and alluring with a hidden and mysterious sense of confident sexuality.”

Pinterest Find – To Resolve Project

I admit, I’m a huge Pinterest addict. I waste hours pinning and repinning anything and everything that catches my eye. I avoided it for awhile, but eventually gave in to the call of virtual pinboards because I got really tired of sifting through my thousands of bookmarks and trying to keep them synced between all of my devices. It is so much easier to organize my findings on Pinterest and I love that I can access them anywhere – on the go, at home, at work. What I really love most about Pinterest, though, is the world of inspiration it has opened up. Every time I go on, I am inspired by something new and my urge to create grows stronger.

I’m really excited by my most recent find: To Resolve Project. In a nut shell, artists and designers submit work that revolves around their New Year’s resolutions and it is posted in the To Resolve Project’s feed (read the “about” here and check out the feed here). Here are some of my favorite images and some resolutions that I am adopting for myself (click on images to be taken to the artist’s page):
