Wine Tasting in the Lehigh Valley

Hi Everyone! I hope you all have been having a wonderful spring! The temperatures here  aren’t quite as warm as I would like them to be, but the sun is shining and the trees are turning green, so I can’t complain too much.

This past weekend, my girlfriends and I went on a wine tasting tour in the Lehigh Valley. The bus picked us up in Manhattan and drove us to the first vineyard, Vynecrest Winery, in Breinigsville, PA. There, we enjoyed cheese and wine tastings (the cheese was really yummy!) and toured their building a bit. My favorite was a sweet white wine, which is unusual for me because I tend to lean more towards dry reds.

Once we finished at Vyncrest, we drove over to Blue Mountain Vineyards for more wine tastings and a catered lunch. Here, I really loved their white merlot. Again, this wine was on the sweeter side and I usually don’t like sweet wines. I’m wondering if there was just something funny with my taste buds that day, that all the sweet wines tasted better to me than the dry. The best part about this winery though, was the furry friend that was wandering around the tables, saying hello to all of her guests!

Once we were sufficiently wine-happy and our growling stomachs were satisfied with pasta and bread, it was time to move to the third winery, Blair Vineyards. Here, they paired chocolate with their wines and my absolute favorite was a chocolate covered ginger paired with their Gewurztraminer. It was spicy and sweet – a delicious combination. Once the wine tasting was over, we got to spend some time outside enjoying the gorgeous spring day before we headed back to the city._DSC0605_Lovely _DSC0653 _DSC0639

Jumping for wine!

It was the perfect spring day, spent with good friends and good drinks!

Until next time…

My Weekend via Instagram – Hoboken Edition

Happy Monday, Everyone! I hope you all had a lovely weekend! The sun was finally shining here in Hoboken and I was able to spend some time walking around my new neighborhood, becoming acquainted with the area. What I really love about this town so far is how walkable it is. Hoboken is only about a square mile, so it is really easy to get everywhere on foot. This weekend, it was so enjoyable to stroll along in the sun, taking in all of the sights, shops and restaurants this town has to offer. I even took a walk down to the water and photographed the sparkling view of the NYC skyline.

Along with getting to know the area, I’m really enjoying the process of making my apartment home. I hope to add new things bit by bit (like my plant!) and I hope that it continually evolves.

How was your weekend? I hope you all got some sun too! Until the next post…

A Winter Sunday in Hoboken

Sunday morning, I drove into Hoboken and walked around the city a bit. It was flurrying on and off, but it was a nice, crisp winter day and the view from the waterfront was beautiful. I took some photos with my iPhone and edited them using Afterglow (I mentioned this app in Thursday’s post) and then Instagram.

I love the vintage film effect I achieved with Afterglow

Edited in Afterglow then brought into Instagram and added an additional filter and changed the focus

Edited in Afterglow – used a vintage effect again

I can’t get enough of this circle frame (Afterglow)

Another circle frame with Afterglow and then used Instagram’s focus effect

Added a filter in Afterglow and then used the Lux (that little sun) effect in Instagram and created a focal point

I really like the editing capabilities of Afterglow, such as the different frame shapes, filters, and lens flare effects. What it’s missing though, is the ability to play with the focus the way you can in Instagram. So I edited the photos with Afterglow and then brought them into Instagram to create a focal point. In some images, I added an Instagram filter on top of the Afterglow filter. I really like the way the images turned out and I love the vintage effects I was able to create. It still boggles my mind how quick and simple it is to create beautiful photos on a little phone. Sometimes, Photoshop is just too much.

Weekend Recap: Monday Funday!

I love having Mondays off. It always used to be my least favorite day of the week, but now I love it! It is my day to get things done – run errands, do artwork, clean my room – and I can do it all on my own because everyone else is at work. Lucky for me, my best friend has Mondays off too so Mondays are our fun days – we do some Target & Express shopping, make some crafts, bake in the winter and hit the shore in the summer. Yesterday, we decided to shake things up a bit and took a trip to Old York Cellars in Ringoes, NJ. My friend had a living social voucher for wine and chocolate tasting for two, so we packed a picnic lunch and hit the road!

The winemaker and his wife spent a lot of time with us explaining all the different wines and how he makes them. We tried their Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Pinot Gris, Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sweet Riesling, Blackberry dessert wine, Ravat 51, and White Port. Out of the whites, my favorite was the Vidal Blanc because it wasn’t too sweet and had a slight lemon flavor. This is the bottle we bought to drink with our veggie sandwiches that we packed for lunch. They had an outdoor patio area and the weather yesterday afternoon was a perfect 68 degrees.

I also went home with a bottle of the Merlot and the Cabernet Sauvignon. The Merlot tasted amazing with the Medium Dark Chocolate so of course, I bought a box of that as well. The Sweet Riesling was very light and summery and would be delicious on a summer evening sitting on the deck. I also really enjoyed the White Port, which is made from their Riesling. I’ve never had white port so it was interesting to try. I actually like it better than red port because it seems to be lighter and not quite as sweet. If you ever have time, I definitely suggest taking a trip there and trying their wines. The grounds are beautiful and the wines are delicious! We would like to go back in the spring or summer when the vineyard is in bloom!

I hope you all had a great weeked!

Stay Curious! xo…Alane
